THE LEGION OF MARY
The Legion of Mary began in Ireland in 1921. It is now the largest lay apostolic organization in the Catholic Church, with well over 3 million members through the world. Both men and women are welcome to join.
The Legion has a balanced program of prayer and service in union with the Holy Spirit as He operates through Mary, Mother of the Church.
The Legion focuses primarily on the Spiritual Works of Mercy. Our Legion makes weekly visits to area nursing homes and we recite the rosary with residents. We also bring them Holy Communion, or sometimes, just provide a listening ear. This gives us an opportunity to bring back fallen away Catholics. Also included are parish projects and youth work.
The Pilgrim Virgin Home Visitation Program is another Legion activity. The Pilgrim Virgin is escorted into your home, prayers are recited and then she stays a week or two and farewell prayers are done. The primary purpose of the Pilgrim Virgin Statue home family visitation is to aid families in responding to the requests made by the Blessed Mary during her apparitions at Fatima. The essence of her request is threefold: return to God, make reparation for sins, and to pray the rosary for peace. We are available for anyone needing prayers or celebrating a special occasion. To arrange for a home visit please call: Judith Paul at 352-226-1492.
All Catholics can belong to the LOM. If you are interested you can join us as a guest to see what we do. Contact Carolyn Geiger at kcgeiger@aol.com for more information.
The Legion of Mary continues to meet on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in the Loyola Room. New members are welcome. Meetings include rosary recitation and reports on works done.
Assignments covered include Life Care Center for unwed mothers, Hospice, Daystar, various nursing homes for recitation of the rosary and sing-a-long and visiting with the residents. Also Right to life marches.
