St Scholastica Knights of Columbus, Council 14485, recently held their Soccer Challenge at St. John Paul II School. This Challenge provides an athletic outlet for boys and girls ages 9 to 14 and encourages the value of sportsmanship and healthy competition. This event is designed for participants to demonstrate the most basic soccer skill- the penalty kick. The participants are divided into groups based on their age and gender. After 3 practice kicks, participants were scored on the placement of 15 kicks from the 12- yard penalty line. The scores are awarded according to where the ball passes through the net. The points are tallied up and a winner is determined for each age/gender category.
This year, the Knights had their greatest turnout with 57 participants. Winners are eligible to participate in competitions at the regional level, and possibly advance to the state and national levels. The Winners were presented a certificate and official Knights of Columbus Soccer Ball.
